Humanistic Pharmacy: From Dream to Reality in 25 Years

It is difficult to precisely define Humanistic Pharmacy. At the very least, it involves the
definitions of culture, civilization, science, and technology. Just for culture alone, there are more
than 200 definitions, with scholars holding different views. In China, two representative definitions
are more mainstream and widely accepted. One is from the famous writer Liang Xiaosheng: "It is the
cultivation rooted in the heart, the self-discipline that requires no reminders, the freedom premised
on restraint, and the kindness that considers others." Another is from renowned scholar Yu Qiuyu:
"Culture is a way of life and spiritual values that have become habitual, and its ultimate achievement
is the collective character of a society. " These definitions are both simple and profound, full of
deeper meaning, indicating that the essence of culture is indeed deep and serves as a guiding value
with ultimate significance in life. Humanistic Pharmacy certainly cannot escape this overarching
influence.
Based on 25 years of research, I have offered a broad definition of Humanistic Pharmacy: "It is
a peripheral discipline in pharmaceutical research and services that is distinct from other fields but
intricately linked to them. It is uniquely characterized by intellectual creativity and imagination. Its
